Vidya I Like:

I like video james. They're a great combination of music, visual art, writing, and time-based storytelling.

RPGs and simulators tend to suck up most of my time. Indie games are cool. I'm biased towards 2D graphics and lowpoly 3D graphics, because my computers have always been slow and 100fps HD graphics with ultra shaders legit hurt my eyes.

Landmarks

Some games have irreperably warped my young, vulnerable mind forever.

Fallout: New Vegas

Hey, the lorebeards on Something Awful had a whole thread for modding this game at the time! When was that? 2008? 2009? I had to play what the nerds liked.

I'm glad this was my first Fallout! It would have ended up an Oblivion/Morrowind situation if I played FO3 or FO4 first. Such simplified writing.... New Vegas's dialogue just hits different, man! Every location is important to the world, rather than being a disconnected novelty set piece! And the characters are so much more memorable and fleshed out!

    Waifus:
  • Raul the Ghoul. Danny Trejo is always a QT with a purry voice ;3c and what DOESN'T hit me in my nuts about old disabled grumpy old dudes that have witnessed a lifetime of misery and death and cover it up with a dismissive jokey demeanor?
  • Mr. House. Great voice acting. A pompous paranoid computer man with a mid-atlantic accent, who's actually a rotting dessicated barely living corpse in a life support chamber? You know I like 'em OLD! He's quite similar to my character Vicky, to the point that I considered giving Vicky a mid-atlantic accent. Hey, if Yes Man is Angus.... he's gotta have a man of the House!
  • Vulpes Inculta. I'm really a sucker for fun voice acting. His character is rather simple, brainwashed by the Legion since birth into being yet another death tool for his emperor. But damn his lisping twink voice stands out!

Vampire The Masquerade:Bloodlines

Yet another lorebeard game I learned about from Something Awful. Complete with guide to installing unofficial mods that fix the utterly broken crashing code?! Good games have bad code.

    Waifus:
  • Jeanette. Yes, I'm a basic bitch who falls for the cover girl in the ugly Hot Topic school girl outfit. She's flirty. She flirts with ME!!! I'm an ugly nosferatu who goes googly eyed cuz she gives me the pet name of Ducky and rates me 3 stars in her "little black book"!!! I can't help it!
  • Velvet Velour. I'M SORRY. Yes, I'll fall for every flirty woman who makes me their bitch slave and forces me to do errands for them that will likely intentionally get me killed!!! She's the gentle MILF appeal of the women in this game, she's got a soft lispy voice and she asks REALLY nicely. All that, and you can't really tell if she's just manipulating you or if she genuinely likes you... well, at least I can't tell. I'm one of those suckers who think that just cuz a pretty stripper says they like me, she really means it!!!!
  • Pisha. Another ancient MILF who threatens to kill me unless I run errands for her? You know I gotta stan. She's one of the oldest vampires in the game, she's one of the few non-Americans, and she eats people. That's hot.
  • Vandal. He's the creep in the hospital basement who says he wants to kill you so bad. But he's Jeanette's bitch slave so he can't. I love that. He's so nasty and naughty. I don't even want to kill him when I discover he's been siphoning blood from kidnapped humans to sell to me. I like him! I like listening to him threatening me every time I come to shop!
  • Gorgeous Gary. Mr. Mcnasty Nosferatu, with that old Hollywood flair. The first time I played the game, my save glitched out and I never got to see his character model. Dialogue with him would be me staring at an empty cave room. I thought that was intentional. And HOT. He's just some invisible guy who lives in the ceiling and tells me to do shit!? Awesome. Learning that an unglitched game had him in a lil suit n' tie was a lil disappointing. He still calls me "boss" in a condescending manner, and I still like that.

Elder Scrolls: Morrowind and Oblivion

I was watching a video on the LOATHSOME DUNG EATER from Elden Ring, and the video had a small popoup of Dagoth Ur in the corner. Shane exclaimed how scary he though Dagoth Ur was. The next day, Shane started playing Oblivion meme music to wake me up. First "Star" by Yung Scrolls. Then "Dagothwave". We then realized that Dagoth Ur was trying to seduce me. And his seductiona attempt WORKED!

I had already played Oblivion and Skyrim as a yung lad. But damn, Morrowind is on a whole nudder level. I'm actually reading the lore? There are actually interesting characters that aren't one-note villains or one-dialogue jokes?!

The gameplay isn't that outdated either, other than the miss% on hitting rats. I love how broken these old RPGs are. True roleplaying is letting me brew cat drugs that raise my stats by +600 so I can jump into the final volcano boss.

I'm having fun drawing out Dagoth Ur's in-game neediness into my art! What was he like as Voryn Dagoth? What if he actually was trying to seduce me as Nerevar?!

Oh yes, and I'm replaying Oblivion! We all know how ugly it is. And it's such a shame that Elder Scrolls got so simplified in gameplay and story after Morrowind. I kinda miss the gods having insane violent sex, and being able to have long-winded dialogue with the villains. Even though I played Oblivion first LMAO. Still, it's a fun game to learn the systems to break! Gets tedious after you hit level 20 though. At least we still have AlienSlof's skimpy male clothing mods to keep us interested!

Perhaps I'll replay Skyrim next.
